A good pair of slippers will keep your feet comfy, cozy and warm and give you good traction when walking around the house and even outside. Consider packing a pair of slippers for your next trip. “Slippers are great to bring along for hotel rooms,” said Dr. Anne Sharkey, podiatrist and Pedestrian Project brand partner. “Stashing a pair of slippers in your suitcase will ensure that your feet stay fungus- and wart-free while traveling.” Still, not all slippers are created equal, especially where fit, durability, and warmth are concerned. We tested 62 pairs of slippers for adults and children to find the best products in terms of design, quality, comfort, durability, warmth, and value. Plus, we consulted Dr. Sharkey on key features to look for. The Ugg Tasman slippers were the most well-rounded pair from our tests, as the high-quality and durable materials kept our feet warm without running too hot. For more worthy options, check out our 10 other top picks plus two honorable mentions. Our Top Picks Best Overall: Best Lightweight: Quince Organic Turkish Waffle Slippers at Onequince.com ($30) Best Memory Foam: Best Indoor/Outdoor: L.L.Bean Wicked Good Slippers, Squam Lake Booties at L.L.Bean ($109) Best Wool: Best Arch Support: Best for Kids: Best Shearling: Best for Toddlers: Our Ratings Design 4/5 Quality 5/5 Comfort 4.5/5 Durability 5/5 Value 4/5 Why We Love It These well-made slippers keep feet warm without overheating. What to Consider These may fit snug at first, but will wear in with time. There’s a reason the Ugg brand and slippers are practically synonymous. The brand uses high-quality materials such as shearling and suede to create long-lasting slippers that are warm and cozy, but not too hot. Among Ugg’s vast selection, the Tasman slipper stands out for its high level of durability, even after months of wear. The suede slipper with embroidered trim and a plush genuine-shearling lining can be worn in or out of the house thanks to the thick grippy sole — the same ultra-lightweight outsole as the brand’s Classic Boot. We also loved the soft feel of the abundant plush shearling in the foam footbed, which made these extremely comfortable to wear without socks. The details in the craftsmanship are apparent in the flawless stitching and the bright and beautiful colors. The Details: Size 4 to 12 women's, 7 to 18 me'ns | Suede and shearling | Spot clean only Our Ratings Design 4.5/5 Quality 5/5 Comfort 4/5 Durability 4.5/5 Value 5/5 Why We Love It They’re soft, lightweight, and breathable. What to Consider The size and color options are slim. Quince’s high-quality, budget-friendly offerings prove you don’t need to spend a fortune to get superior wardrobe staples. These 100 percent organic long-staple Turkish cotton slippers, which feel like they belong in a luxe spa, are no exception. The comfy but not bulky design is perfect for wearing around the house, with or without socks, on most surfaces. (They may feel a bit slippery on carpets, but have better traction on hardwood floors). A white slipper can feel like a risky purchase, but thankfully these are machine washable to keep them looking good as new over long periods of time. The Details: Size S to L | Turkish cotton | Machine washable Our Ratings Design 4.5/5 Quality 4.5/5 Comfort 5/5 Durability 4.5/5 Value 4.5/5 Why We Love It They hold up well after months of wear. What to Consider These are a bit stiff at first and may require a break-in period. With a slimmer silhouette, these slip-ons are a great option for people with narrow feet (though they’re also available in a wide version). The highlight of these slides is the multi-density cushioned insole with memory foam for a cloud-like feeling on your feet. The rubber outsole is sturdy enough for wearing outdoors when checking the mailbox or even running errands. Don’t worry about your feet overheating in these ultra-warm slippers: they’re outfitted with breathable temperature-regulating DF Adapt no-sweat technology. The Details: Size S to XXL, wide and regular | Polyester and rubber | Gentle machine wash cold, air dry flat Our Ratings Design 5/5 Quality 5/5 Comfort 5/5 Durability 5/5 Value 5/5 Why We Love It These wear like a slipper but look like a boot. What to Consider You’ll need to pull these on rather than just sliding in. If your dream slippers double as a pair of outdoor booties, this option from L.L.Bean is exactly what you’re looking for. Though the velvet suede exterior looks and feels luxurious, it’s also extremely durable because it’s water- and stain-resistant so you can wear them out and about without worry. The shearling lining is super fluffy and comfortable —feel free to wear these without socks to truly savor the interior. The durability of these slippers over months of wear makes them worth the splurge. The Details: Size 6 to 11 women's | Velvet suede, shearling and rubber Our Ratings Design 5/5 Quality 5/5 Comfort 5/5 Durability 5/5 Value 4.8/5 Why We Love It The extremely cushioned sole kept our feet comfy all day long. What to Consider These are best for indoor-only wear. Sustainability is part of Allbirds’ brand ethos, so these classic slippers are made from upcycled scraps from the brand’s wool shoes. Still, they don’t sacrifice anything in the way of style or comfort. The rubber soles are durable enough for any indoor surface, and the cushioned insole molds to your feet and feels even more comfortable over time. These feel great even after long hours of standing and walking around the house. Though these don’t stain easily, you do have the option to machine wash them should you need to. The Details: Size S to XXL | Wool and polyester | Machine wash gentle, air dry The 15 Best Loungewear Sets for Women of 2024 Our Ratings Design 5/5 Quality 5/5 Comfort 5/5 Durability 4/5 Value 4.7/5 Why We Love It The comfort in these slip-ons is unmatched. What to Consider The style may not be to everyone’s tastes. If your feet tend to hurt after lots of walking or standing, consider a pair of slippers with cushioned arch support. Vionic’s podiatrist-designed slippers feature biomechanically contoured arch support and a deep heel cup to realign your stride and help prevent moderate to excessive pronation. They’re supremely comfortable from the first wear, and feet will stay secure inside without sliding around. Don’t worry about stepping outside in them either —the thick footbed is sturdy enough. They’re odor-resistant as well. The Details: Size 5 to 12 women's | Polyester terrycloth | Spot clean only Our Ratings Design 5/5 Quality 5/5 Comfort 5/5 Durability 5/5 Value 5/5 Why We Love It These slippers are durable enough to wear outdoors. What to Consider The suede stains easily. These suede and sheepskin slip-ons get some extra pizzazz from the exposed shearling lining. They’re easy to slip in and out of, so kids can conveniently keep them close by when going to or coming from sports, dance, or other activities —especially since the ultra-light sole is sturdy enough to wear outdoors on any surface. Though they’re a bit pricey, the high-quality materials and construction make these worth the price since they’ll last a long time. The Details: Size 10T to 6 | Suede and shearling | Spot clean only Our Ratings Design 4.8/5 Quality 4.8/5 Comfort 5/5 Durability 4.5/5 Value 4/5 Why We Love It The contoured footbed provides optimal comfort. What to Consider The dipped rubber sole doesn’t appear as durable as standard Birkenstock soles. If you’re a fan of Birkenstock’s clogs or sandals, you’ll love these shearling-lined slippers from the German brand. They’re made with the same cork sole that Birkenstocks are famous for as well as the contoured footbed that molds to your foot shape for even more comfort. If your feet tend to run hot, you’ll appreciate that the shearling lining isn’t overly thick giving just the right amount of warmth. The wool exterior comes in a nice variety of colors and patterns. The Details: Size 5 to 15 | Wool and shearling | Spot clean with leather cleaner Our Ratings Design 5/5 Quality 5/5 Comfort 4.5/5 Durability 4.5/5 Value 5/5 Why We Love It These budget-friendly slippers keep toddlers’ feet plenty warm. What to Consider These run a bit small, so size up if you’re between sizes. With so many cute and fuzzy animal designs —think: sharks, puppies, and unicorns —toddlers will love wearing these pull-on slippers. They’ll stay snug to a child’s foot like a warm hug, even amidst dancing and prancing around — and the traction on the bottom will help them from sliding around the floor. And if all that playing scuffs them up too much, feel free to throw these slippers straight in the washing machine. They’ll keep kids’ feet super warm in colder months, but you may want to consider a more breathable option for summer. The Details: Size 6.5 toddler to 5 big kid | Machine washable Why We Love It We love the look — and feel — of the shearling ankle cuff. What to Consider While they are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, the clunky sole may not be the most comfortable for lounging at home. The Olukai Ku'i Slippers are one of the most versatile pairs we tested thanks to their supportive and thick rubber sole and soft inner lining. Unlike some clog-style slippers, these have a back edge that keeps your foot in a secure and comfortable position. The inside is warm and plush, so you don't need to wear socks with them and the back edge comes up higher than other slipper styles, so your ankles can enjoy some warmth as well. After wearing these pretty much daily for three weeks, they still look great — even after getting caught in the rain while dog-walking. The Details: Size 5 to 11 women's | Leather and shearling Our Ratings Design 5/5 Quality 5/5 Comfort 5/5 Durability 4.8/5 Value 4.8/5 Why We Love It With a wool upper and leather sole, these warm, high-quality slides are designed to last. What to Consider They cannot be worn outside (not even for a quick trip to the mail box!) While they may take some getting used to, the Glerups Wool Slippers are a soft and comfortable option for minimalists looking to stay warm while they work from home or snuggle up on the couch. These slippers can only be worn inside, but the sole still provides excellent traction and they're designed to protect your flooring from scuffs and scratches. The slippers' upper is one solid piece of very thick wool, so you don't feel any uncomfortable seams and the outsole is a piece of thick leather stitched on. We love the roomy toe box that allows room to wiggle your toes and the soft wool interior that is plush and smooth, rather than itchy. For this level of quality and comfort, designed to last for years to come, the higher price-point feels like an investment in self-care. The Details: Size 36-47 | Wool and leather The 15 Best Slippers for Men of 2024 The following slippers we tested didn’t quite make our list of the very best, but are still worth an honorable mention. Sorel Women's Nakiska Scuff Slipper: These suede clogs with a rubber sole are well-made and warm. They do stretch with extended wear, however. The T+L team used hands-on testing to try 62 slippers in the real world. Our tests closely examined the design, quality, comfort, durability, warmth, and value of each pair. Kids’ slippers were tested on children whose parents helped observe and record the results. Testers will continue using the products and collecting their insights for a period of six months after the initial test. “Just like shoes, slippers should fit well and not cause pain or skin irritation while wearing them,” advised Dr. Sharkey, who prefers slippers with a back over backless options. “Slippers that have cushioning are going to be most comfortable. An outsole with tread or grippy bottom [will] give you traction on slick surfaces.” If you plan to wear your slippers to the mailbox or even out for errands, make sure they have a thick, durable outsole that can withstand the extra wear that comes from walking on grass or cement. In this case, you may also want to prioritize warmth, as well as fabrics that are less prone to dirt and staining. When purchasing slippers for children, traction for indoor wear is very important. “I also recommend against slippers that don’t have an outsole or some grippy substance on the bottom as slips and falls can easily happen on hard floor surfaces without some traction,” said Dr. Sharkey. Machine washable slippers are highly convenient for dealing with kids’ messes and spills. Slippers may not come with the same standard sizing as shoes. Some run in double sizes (such as 6/7 and 8/9) and, in this case, size up for a better fit. Keep in mind that plush linings can make slippers feel more snug, as can wearing socks with slippers, so consider your preference before you buy. And it doesn’t hurt to read the reviews — some show clear trends indicating a slipper runs large or small based on customer experience. Frequently Asked Questions Should you size up when buying slippers? If you plan to wear your slippers with thick socks, it may be beneficial to size up so there’s plenty of room. However, be sure to read reviews as some slippers stretch over time, in which case your true size might work better. If slippers run narrow, you may also want to size up if you don’t have particularly narrow feet. How do I wash my slippers? It’s important to read the care instructions on your specific product to determine the best way to clean them. Many slippers, especially those made of genuine shearling, are best to spot clean rather than submerge in water. Others can stand to be thrown in the washing machine for a deep clean. For this story, Talia Ergas closely reviewed our testers’ detailed notes and recommendations. She also spoke with Dr. Anne Sharkey, podiatrist and Pedestrian Project brand partner, for her expert insights. The Most Comfortable Walking Shoes for Travel Love a great deal?
